350 Sanitation Workers and Indian Army Help Flood-Hit Vadodara
In Vadodara, Gujarat, 350 sanitation workers from Surat have arrived to clean flood-affected areas. The Indian Army has deployed six columns to conduct rescue operations in the worst-hit regions.
Efforts by Sanitation Workers
Mahesh Rathod, the in-charge Executive Engineer of Surat Municipal Corporation, stated, “We have been working here for the last 2 days. We have 350 sanitation workers here. We clean the dirt from the affected areas. When we came here, we surveyed to find out where to start the work from.”
Indian Army’s Role
The Indian Army has been mobilized to support ongoing relief efforts. “In response to the severe flooding in multiple districts, the Indian Army has swiftly mobilized its resources to support the ongoing relief efforts. Following a request from the Gujarat State Government, six columns of the Indian Army are undertaking rescue operations to the worst-affected areas to provide immediate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR),” the Army said in a statement.
Government’s Response
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephonic conversation with him to discuss the flood situation and relief measures. The Prime Minister expressed concern over the flooding of the Vishwamitri river in Vadodara and assured all support from the Central Government.
