In a significant operation, police in Chhattisgarh have recovered a cache of weapons, including AK 47s, SLRs, and LMGs, following an encounter in which 31 Naxals were killed. The incident occurred in the Maad area on the Narayanpur-Dantewada border.

Bastar Inspector General Sundarraj P reported that among the 31 Naxals killed, 18 were men and 13 were women. The operation was a joint effort by the DRG Dantewada, DRG Narayanpur, and STF teams, who acted on information about a gathering of 40 to 50 Naxalites.

During the encounter, security forces engaged in a heavy exchange of fire, resulting in the deaths of the Naxals. The police are continuing to profile the deceased and recover weapons, including 1 LMG, 4 AK47s, 6 SLRs, and 3 INSAS rifles.

Reactions from Officials

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his satisfaction with the operation, stating that it marks a significant step towards ending Naxalism and establishing peace in the region. He praised the courage of the soldiers involved.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a meeting on October 7 to review security and development in areas affected by left-wing extremism. Earlier this year, he announced plans to eradicate left-wing extremism in India by March 2026.
